Awsome mouth shots on that Mako. Our last fish of the night turned into a Mako. There was only 2 of us on the boat and I was on the leader. When he surfaced he was pointed directly towards the boat with mouth wide open. I had to step back because it looked like he was ready to jump in the boat if I hit him with the gaff. We did put a nice 60 incher in the boat out of a triple header that went off all at once early in the nite.

One more thanks to Quack Quack. Too many times I hear guys unwilling to move when someone has a big fish hooked up. You sir, are a class act.
It was a hell of a fight. Fatrabbit is 100% stud. 3+ hours, stand up with a 50 at 18 pounds of drag. Steve - nice dart job. Remind me to never piss you off if there's a harpoon handy. Barry - Pretty work on the "little" fish. |

Way to go DoradoSteve/crew:
I think you were the one/boat that did the catching. The post was not crystal clear. That must have made for an interesting evening. At what point did you suspect you had something other than a swordfish on the line? Yeah, we landed our first ever "shortfin" mako several weeks back. It was certainly an interesting experience. Good to see you got to have a similar experience and a release with a longfin Mako. Just for the record, for anybody that does not know better, Longfin makos must be released. Certainly, you guys knew that, but not everybody knows which sharks must be released. Here is a link to the NMFS brochure: http://www.nmfs.noaa.gov/sfa/hms/bro...4.brochure.pdf Also the listing for Florida waters: http://myfwc.com/marine/Regulations/...artWeb1-06.pdf |

nice longfin mako! we went 1 for 2 with releasing on around the 47inch mark and losing one around 100 pounds near the boat.
We stuck it out until about 11:30 and it got rough.. so we headed in. Anyone fishing the Billfish Tourney this weekend? |
