Default Feb 1st Sword Report, Back by 11 and 3.5 for 6

Another great night aboard the Emijess. On board was Myself, Emijess, E-money, Snook-it, and Mate1 snuck on board. We we're out in search of Emijess' First sword on the boat. We got a great start and everyone was on time, out the inlet to find NOAA's 2 or less was more like 2-4 with a ground swell. Get out to the spot and get the whole spread out before dark. Shallow tip rod goes off about 15min after dark, and up comes a nice 54'' Fish right to the boat. He comes in so quick we have no dart or gaff ready so i reach down and yank his @$$ right in Captin Mitch style. 7:00 and the boats cherry is popped. We get that rod ready to go back out and get some Tinkers under the boat, send the sabiki's down and the well is full. Send the shallow tip rod down with a fresh live Tinker. About 10min goes by and the tinker gets smoked! This fish rushes to the surface and jumps 10ft behind the boat about 3 times. The fish darts to the other side of the boat and goes right across one of the jug rods. I grab the leader and the fish darts. The knot to the snap swivel breaks and there goes another LP To make matters worse i not only see it swim away with the fish but the fish surfaces about 100yards off the boat and swims around a little to rub it in!! (this is the .5 off 3.5, i had the leader you make the call). Next up the Deep tip rod gets hit. After about a 15min battle up comes a little bigger fish. I go to bill him but can't reach (the sides of this boat are high!!) so Mate1 sticks him with a straight gaff and i reach down and yank him in! This fish measures out at 55''. Action slows for about 15min until the shallow tip rod with a live Tinker gets slammed! I jump on the rod and come tight. After about a 3 min battle the hook pulls. The bite slows down for about 30min, So i reel the deep tip rod in. Right as a got the lp up to the surface me and Emoney see a fish and i feel thump thump. I drop back let him eat and set the hook. We come tight on another fish fed in the light! This fish comes up to the boat and we see he is tail wrapped. Right as we went to grab the fish he takes off for a nice run. About 5 min later in comes a little guy probably about 47-50''s. He is released to fight another day. At around 9:15 we decide not to push our luck and give it 15 more minutes (We are 3.5 for 5 at this point) I give it the call, ok let's start reeling them up. After all tip rod's are cleared E-money reels in the long balloon. right when the balloon was just outside the light the reel screams!!! We comes tight and the balloon breaks off. The fish immediately pulls E$ to the gunnel and smokes some drag. The fish ran across the other balloon line and got a tangle. We got it un-done and the fight is on. Right before we we're about to switch to the harness nothing there We lost the big one of the night! Thanks Emijess for the great trip on your boat! And Emoney for coming down south to see what real Swording is all about! 3 good nights in a row i think the bite is hotttt!
BTW, The man stopped us at the ramp and checked up on everything, so make sure you have your HMS, Fishing License, and legal fish!

What all did they have in their stomachs? I have noticed here lately that they only have tinkers in them.

Good job Flatsfish B!

I need to get with you guys on a south drift.

I'm done with the "Northern Drift"

Two nights amongst the fleet & NO swords caught by anyone.

I am now referring to it as the "Nothing Drift"

Steve we were covered up the one Tues night with fish (not sure what happened to you guys) but we couldnt keep a bait in the water, so not sure what the deal is, but do what you must. You have to think, there were 10 boats out there last night with us that got skunked but down South there were probably over 100 out........I wonder how many of them got skunked as well.......of course there are always going to be a few that get in the fish with all the area covered, Steve its fishing.

Stomach contents were as follows:

2 or 3 tinkers, 1 squid and some mystery fish, here is a picture.

And you wonder why they grow so fast!

Steve, Beerguy, we also fished north of you all last night, not a sniff so it seems just off night. Glad we were not alone. That is our second skunk in the past two trips, pretty depressing when we have such a long run compared to our cousins down south. We had a pretty decent swell running off Ft Pierce, how was it south? I have a theory about swell/chop not producing the bites like calmer or more spread out swell. What do you think?

looks like a deep water drummer. We catch something that looks like that when we deepdrop. hard to tell though as the head is covered up. Did it have a bottom feeders motuh, like a red or black drum does.

That fish was at the buffet!

I need a good southern trip to get me out of what is becoming a rut.

After that I may not be so bitter towards the "Nothing Drift"

I dont think its a bunker, might be in the same family, but its not the Bunker we are thinking of...Lateral line, bigger eye, etc are different

Look at these
