For next time (and I hope there is not a next time), the law of the sea
requires that EVERY boat in the vicinity shall cease whatever they are
doing and join in the search and rescue. every boat should have
responded. I've been on a research vessel that had to stop all
science, at the cost of many hundreds of thousands of dollars, and ride
over 12 hrs, in the opposite direction to our transect, to join in a search. cheers, arthur
