If the weather holds I'll be out there tonight. We are heading out in the afternoon for some kite fishing and then off to sword grounds.

It was a steady night last night. We went 1 for 5 aboard Finlander. The bites kept coming about one within every hour which is a pretty cool way to fish. It seemed like all of the fish were hitting the 200 ft. line, at least all of the hook-ups. Had a shallow line get whacked too. We had only squid, no livies and the full spectrum electrolume got a few of the hook-ups.
It was the last fish that counted as the boated fish. Fish number 3 was a wild pup. This fish was running all over the place and under the boat: you could see the electrolume racing around all over the place down 50-75 ft. Bob was on the fish and lucky thing he did not see the fish jump because it was kind-of scary. The fish did a 3 ft. high launch out of the water only a 10 ft. behind the boat and perhaps 2 ft. off of the gunwale. It was close: any closer and that fish could have launched right into the boat, pointy sword leading the way. That was a bit spooky because it could have speared one of us. After the launch and a few more passes by the boat, the fish broke free. Around 10:45 we notice the close balloon is missing. I check the line and start cranking. It feels heavy like a tangle with another line or two but as I am cranking in, all the other lines are holding their position. So now I am thinkig we have a night shark. But as the weight is cleared from the line the fish breaks the surface and it has a bill. It was small and we were planning to release it but after we measure it along side of boat, 49", we notice that the fish does not want to revive. So we haul it in the boat and decide to call it a night. |

Iron-em:
Didn't get any lives baits.... We wanted to get offshore by sun-down so we did not stop to catch any blue runners, etc. Never saw any Tinkers after we got setup either. Good looking squids are very effective baits for swordfishing so I don't sweat it if we don't have any, (livebaits). Although I would definitely use them if they are handy. |

We went 2 for 2.The first took a squid on the 75' and the other took a live pork chop (large runner) on the tip. Both pumpkins. The inlaws are lining up for the potental hand outs.

Went 1 for 1 on Saturday. Got out around 6:45 and fish on at 7:30. 51" hit the 225 bait and gave us a quick 10 minute fight. Was slow after this and pulled them in at 9:30. Weather wasn't bad at all although it can get cold out there with the wind...
