I noticed that 40% of you guys dont report your fish. Either you dont have a permit or you think the reporting is bullsht. It may be pointless, but if you keep posting pictures and stories there may be someone with a badge waiting for you after the trip.

It's not about telling your rival captain about where you catch your beasts, it's about keeping this fishery. Scientists do serve a purpose. Look way back in the forum to what John Peel said. If we don't report, this fishery may be gone, so why not do everything we can to make sure it lasts? You don't have to let anybody know where you caught your swords (as long as they are in legal waters -Chum knows more about that weird line).

Quite a few of those pictures you see and think the fish haven't been reported, then you are not a member of the S.E Swordfishing club, or you weren't at the last meeting. The club ran a 6 month tourney and all you had to due was call in and report the fish to the club and they submitted all the data about a week or a week an a half ago.
Chum, when I grow up can I go out and catch fish with U. PLEASE. Yes we report all our fish! |

I have spoke about this at a couple of meetings but here goes again. Alot of people feel like if they report it will somehow help letting the longliners back fishing of our coast. WRONG. Some don't know they need a permit. The reasons for reporting are not just for scientific purposes but also to see how much the rec sector is catching. With the US not filling its quota it forfits tons of fish. Other country's bartor to get us to give them the extra tons so the US will not loss those pounds for the next year. Well if the rec. sector would get of their asses and start to do things the correct way and prove to the people in Washington that we a not going away and want to help the fishery things might change. For the people that don't thing report is important look at this way every fish that you catch and do not report that is x amount of pounds that does not get added to our quota and who do you think will get it down the road, foreign longliners. If we as the rec. group can make enough noise they will have to listen but a group that reports 100 fish or so ayear is just adrop in the bucket and meaningless. Hopefully people start to see the bigger picture and realize if we want to be heard as a group we need to speak as a group, not meaning join our club but if every rec. boat with a permit reported their catches they we see big increase and almost be forced to allocate some of the US qouta towards the rec. sector. As small a number that might be it would be one less fish a foreign longliner would be able to bartor the US in giving to them.

AkaUrDad:
LHPfish was simply saying that you can get in trouble if you do not follow proper procedure. I know him and he doesn't care if you get in trouble but he's trying help people and swords out by letting you know that reporting is a damn good system and if you don't follow procedure when dealing with swords, there can be consequences. |

AkaUrDad, I wasn't threating anyone with a badge. After seeing the poll on the site that almost 1/2 of us dont report it angered me a bit. No hard feelings, but I don't want anyone to get in trouble for not making the phone call.
