Default Port Canaveral - Swordfish

friday night- july 9th we ran 60 miles out of port canaveral to see how the swordin is in our neck of the woods.

flat ride out aboard the plane simple a 35' cabo.

about 9:30pm we got our spread out - lots of cool critters started showing up in the green light of the hydro glow... including two juv. sailfish.

i think 9:45 the deep line bounced a couple times. i went to the rod and started cranking --- it came tight. as it made its way up from the depths i really didn't think it was a sword... not much fight to it. a few minutes later troy got the weight... then we see the lp. troy grabs the leader and to our surprise we see it IS a sword. at this point he comes to life starts jumping then he dumps the reel. 10 more minutes and we have him boat side again. troy wires him and we have gotten our first port canaveral sword. cool stuff.

some high fives with the crew -- took some pictures and we go back south and reset. we lose a second fish on the deep line. we then try another area where ed had some luck and we miss a fish on the "tip" line.

about 3:00 am we call it a night and head for the otherside at 10 knots. as the sun rises we begin to hunt birds.

first pack we find -- troy lands a nice yellowfin and we pull two off.

bit later we land a small wahoo off a crate.

we fish a couple more packs and land a few more tuna and call it a morning.

great time with some great friends!

Great going guys on th swordie. You are luckier then us with respect to the yellowfins. I have always wanted to fish the eastside of the stream up there and hit up the NOAA Bouy on that side (I can't remember the weather bouy's #). I have heard the tuna can be extremely thick there at times. Again good going on the swords.

Great job BoldWater. You put some great fish in the boat with an awesome combination of fishing. Congrats. :salut:
It's great to here about the grounds to our North for Swords.
Is that Cabo as great as everyone says they are. A 40' open Cabo is my dream boat.
