The EU is really neutering their people quick. After taking away their guns, fur coats, maggot farms, rat tournaments, and real fox hunting, the Brits are getting ready to give up destructive devices like hooks and the devils own creation of monofilament.
Just think how ISO could help like they did with vermin control devices! Apparently they haven't read Tales of Swordfish & Tuna, nor had a swordfish on before. Marlin have nothing on swordfish, you guys know. Keep a stiff fin and stem all tides Minkman |

The recreational guys have avoided longliners coming back to the waters for some time now and have taken a stand when they are trying to get back in. I would also like to see more catch and release, but we need to start with the regulations. If the regulations allow, we can only do so much. I would like to see the 3 per boat limit come down to 2 or 1, as it really only takes 1 fish to make the night and a fat 60lb fish can feed a family easliy. |

A 60 lb fish can feed a family for quite a while. And I'd like to see the minimum size raised to 55 or even 60 inches, but before that could ever happen, longliners would be back in our waters, destroying the population again! So just becuase I'd like to be able to catch and release big fish doesn't mean I'm gonna turn loose a 53 incher if it is my only fish of the night and my freezer is empty. That is one fish though out of who knows how many. Just like this 527 was one fish. A big one yes, a breeder, sure...but just one that happened to hop on a rec boat instead of longline gear.

Wankers was the perfect description. I was especially amused by the "expert" on that board who claimed that fish should have been taken in 90 minutes. Come on over and try. Bring 2 strong friends so you can each spend 90 minutes on it.
We have the best swordfishing in the world here, and using current conservation measures- recreational take for personal consumption- the fishing is improving. I thought I read that the fish came up dead. Too bad they didn't release it, huh? I also read where the kid said if he caught anymore he would release them. Very nice fish kid. |

i just think its funny how whenever a really nice catch comes up people start yellin. yell at the people who kill the 49 inchers. im pretty sure it comes down to being jealous of such a nice catch. this fish may have been a breeder yes, but at least it has had time to breed, unlike the small ones who are killed before they ever get the chance. there is absolutly no reason to get all worked up over one fish and say he should have released it when longliners are killing thousands.
look at hte big picture, its one guy's fish of a lifetime and the meat is being put to good use |

OK, went over and joined the wankers on their forum and tried to post a lesson on swordfish.
The truth is, by looking at that forum, most of the fish they catch are not much bigger than the rainbow runner I last used for bait. Half the guys over there still think that was a marlin not a sword. I guess if you can catch and release a carp, you think everything should be released..... BTW, my report from "Glowstick" on his trip last night on C-Weed, produced a quick bite on the first bait in the water. Sun was still up when the fish hit, fought the fish until about 10:00 and release a 300 - 400Lb BLUE MARLIN on the 50 line! |

Hi all
I have read the posts both hereand the replies from some of you on our forum http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/ubb/ulti...2;t=006071;p=1 I hope you all know just how lucky you are having such fantastic fishing on your doorstep. Many of us travel the world looking for good fishing as the fishing in Europe is becoming pathetic in comparison. I was fortunate to spend 8 days fishing in the keys earlier this year. We have been let down badly in the UK and EU by governments that deem the diminishing fish stocks belong to the commercial Industry. We are just about making a break through thanks to the endless hours put in by enthusiasts and a government report just out yesterday actually acknowledged recreational sea angling. Just the acknowledgement not any action is seen as a big step forward. As a result of a proposed commerial slaughter, I and a few internet colleagues, have spent every available minute putting together a group which will try and get the tope, a small shark with a potential weight of 100 lb designated as a recreation species only. details at http://www.save-our-sharks.org/e107_...Our-Sharks.php A part from the odd rarely caught Porbeagle shark, this is our equivalent of your Swordfish. Because we have so few decent big fish in the UK we have become very protective off them and i guess it was this, that caused the emotional outburst on our Forum.  Whilst not wanting to interfere with other countries politics I would much rather see such magnificent creatures returned, particuarly as they are classed as endangered on the IUCN red list. Look after your sport and save some of the big ones for me, for when i return to the keys next May tight lines Ian |
