Hooked Up
|
I left the dock at around 2 PM, to troll to the sword grounds. Found some nice weeds, but nothing on em.
Set up around the 53 50 line, at about 8:15. Got 4 rods out. Started putting the 5th rod down, and i heard the 300' ft rod going off. Feed the fish for a while, but never put a hook into him. Changed the rig to another large squid. Put it back down, and about another half hour (9:30), it gets slamed. This time the reel was almost backlashed. He started ripping line off, so i put it in strike and held on. By the time my 2 partners got the other 4 rods up, he had me down to a a half spool on a 50 wide, with 50. Almost 500 yds gone in 6 minutes. As the first engine was fired up, we came unglued. We fiqured we had big bertha on. Reset down around the 58 50.5 line. Never had any bites afterwords, headed in aroung midnight. Last night was a fast drift, 5 knots, north and we were drifting out too, when we left we were at the 48 line. 2.5 miles further off shore in under 2 hours, plus 7 miles to the north. |

Nice report. Sometimes you have to ease up when they run like that. Too much heat with that much speed will pull the hooks. What was the wind conditions?
