First time poster, long time lurker
![]() I figure I would post when we got a nice one in the boat. Last night was a night of bites. We had a double header on at 8:30. While it started out as a chinese fire drill, we locked up on one fish and fought the other one regulary. We made the right call. The locked up fish came to the boat quick in about 5 minutes and went about 50 inches. We took a filet knife and cut the leader right at the bill and sent him away kicking good. The other fish nearly broke us off by going under the boat while this release happened. We manged to fight the fish for another hour and got the fish up on the surface and to the boat and went 66 inches, about 130lbs or so. When the fish got to the boat we had another hang out in the light. For a minute or so he was just darting around under the boat, so we decide what the hell, out goes a squid and fish on!!!! I wanted to experiement with my gear and harness, so I put the harness on and went upt to about 25lbs of drag (way past strike) once the fish stopped running... I leaned back and put a hurting on the fish without popping the line. In came the fish in about 10 minutes and another release about 55 inches. I'm whooped and it was 10:00. We head in early. We are going to try again tomorrow night. Our first 2 fish were on squid over at 225 and 325 feet. THe third fish was on the surface. We started our drift on the 51.5 off hollywood and never had to reset. I heard of a boat hooked up for over an hour when we left, never heard if he got it. We'll be out again tomorrow. |

The drift was slightly out and north. However we got on fish quick and had to maneuver boat with engines... We had a trip planned for tongiht, but don't think we can make it. Good luck to the guys fishing.
