Default Last Night's 9/10/05 Sword Trip

Second Chance and I took my Cousin's Brother-in-Law Jailorman who is a displaced Citizen (Katrina) from Mississippi out swording last night. He really needed some stress release. Well we clear the inlet and make some live bait and headout to the grounds. The current is 1.0 knot, the the wind is blowing us almost straight out extremely fast.
We set up on the inside of the 50 and we deploy a sea anchor to slow us from being blown out. It is 8:05 pm and I just put our 2nd bait in the water which is set at 100'. The float just got to where I wanted it positioned and I am just about to put the drag up a little and BAM, FISH ON.

I get tight on the fish and hand the rod off to Jailorman, H'LL YEAH he going to pop his cherry. 8:25 pm a nice fat 53 incher comes over the side. We run back in to where we started and reset. There are some really nasty storms heading our way, so we watch them.

Jailorman is getting green around the gills, the storms are getting closer and lightening is striking the water at a regular rate and we are deciding what to do, especially since the radio is busy with boats calling in hook ups to the commitee boat for the Dusk to Dawn Tourney.

We decide that we already have a fish in the boat, we are calling it a night (approx. 9:30pm). Just as I start to reel in the last bait, which is on the same rod we caught the fish on. I come tight on a fish, but it is gone as quickly as the rod bent. We start to haul azz in and the storm clouds closer in look really ugly.

We get about 11 miles out and we put on rain gear. 10 miles out and all H'LL Breaks Loose. Winds 40 mph +. Rain so severe that you can't see 20 feet in front of you and it is pelting us so hard it is hurting our eyes and faces. there are also whitecaps and lightening is striking all over the place. We are in ARMAGEDDON . The Miles click down and the storm is not letting up. 2 miles off the beach and we can't see the port. Tony (2ndchance) runs us right to PE's outside channel marker, we spot it's light, but you still can't see land. We find the next set of channel markers, still no land. we are less then a 1/4 mile out of the inlet, before we could make out the hotels and lights of the Port . Visibility finally improves and we clear the inlet and the rain is letting up.

Long story short, 2ndchance you did a great job running the boat and getting us home . Jailorman popped his cherry and we went 1/2, just another night memorible night out Swordfishing.

sounds about like the night i went out with capt. Frank, a friend of Bobby Boyle's. while i was down in lauderdale going to sea school i went to bobby's store and he hooked me up with a ride out to go swording. we got caught in some of the nastiest storms i've ever seen. we started out of boca and got chaced all the way down almost to miami, had about 3 hour ride back right through the worst of it, visibility nil. only time i've ever put on a life jacket. scarry stuff.

We set up at 7:50 on the 42n and by the time i had the 4th bait in the water we were on.The 225ft rod went off,my client was able to get tight on her quick and she came up jumping.Eventhough she was a pup its still awesome watching them jump over and over again at night, especially close to the boat.We released her,and the baits went back out again.About 10 minutes go by,then the storms start rolling up on us.I look outinto the spread and notice that the 175ft jog is way to the left,Craig quickly comes tight again, and we have our second fish of the night on,and its only 8:20!We release her un harmed.I start putting the baits back out when my client says"do you think that storm is headed our way"? I started to laugh and said "yup sure does"He then tells me,"You know what? We already have had a great night releasing 2 fish by 8:20 lets head in.I wind the biats up,clear the deck and get ready for the 26 mile run back to haulover. We get about 12 off and we are just to the south of the first storm that went by.SHe was lightning like i have never seen, and hailing somethin fierce. We make it in the inlet, and run all the way to the marina. What a storm.I was definetly glad that we made it back safe, and glad that noone was struck by the lightning in those storms.I will be out again Mon-Wed-Fri-Sat- nights.Give me a shout on 72.Congrats to the winners of the tourney.Jim_ freddy good job guys!

Nice job Scott, good thing you made it out. I saw it was getting nasty around the inlet when i hooked a nice snook. Lost him though, freaking rocks.
Did those calbes and crimps you bought the other day work out for you?

Yeah Dave the crimps did the job and I set up all my high speed tolling rigs. I still can't figure out what happened to all my high speed trolling gear. We trolled for about 10 minutes, Tony wanted to run and look for dolphin. We also decide to follow the Blue Boat out because CaptKen had an alarm sound and we didn't want to leave him just incase he need help. Thankfully everything was ok. We fished live baits on some floating debrie we found but there weren't any fish under it. Before we knew it, it was time to set up @ 2ndchance's secret lucky numbers and fish for swordies.
