Hooked Up
|
Did a daytime/night trip yesterday (actually just woke up to post). Did a drop at 4:15 and came tight at 4:30pm on something. Let the s1200 do its job while assisting by pulling line onto the reel. Fought her for 3hrs and it was an awesome battle. Up and down. I was fortunate to get the lead off on the first shot
. She seemed to like 300ft for a long time, but we got her back up inch by inch. She popped out and I stuck the dart through her massive gillplate and into her spine. My buddy sunk the gaff, I sank a second, and we got a tailrope and gillrope on. Then we motored away from the blood to avoid sharks. Called a buddy boat out there, and took 4 to pull her in. Since we were commercial, no camera on the boat . The fish measured 102 in LJFL and the core went 377. Pumpkin. Props to jamie for sticking with her on the reel and guiding her away from the props. And thanks a ton to the guys on the Competition. Couldn't have done anything without the help. We have pics of the core, and I hope to get them up soon.

Nice fish JJ
Hope you do not mind" Wanted to share a way to get fish in the boat easily. I fish alone most of the time far from shore with no one around. I learned running a harpoon boat to use a 5 to 1 pulley system. Just put it on the tail and attach it to the tower of wheel house where ever and winch em up. Slit the guts right out of em while in the water hanging by the tail. Keeps em up out of toothy critters target zone and makes good chum if you toss it right in the sack and bait to. Never know who might come to dinner with pumpkin on the menu. What did you find inside? Ours are all full of Humboldt squid weighing up to 100 pounds each in schools of 1200 that can easily take your finger off with their beak. They are so full they pop like a can of biscuits, pig is right. |
