Default 8/30/05

If you wanna catch a swordfish, go tonight (8/31) or the next couple nights. Very solid bite all through the night out there. We ended up boating our first fish of the night around 8:30 (Mike Grimm, my brother Kevin, and I) which was a small fish at 51 inches. During that fight (a pretty good one for almost a half hour - surprised us when we realized how small it was) we had another fish rip off drag on a live bait for a few seconds.

When the original fish is in the boat and we straighten everything out we start to crank in the others to go reset. Some baits are ruined from swordfish, but just after I pop the weight off the last rod, a sword hits the squid on the edge of the light.

Never got a good hookup - looked to be around 50-53 inches as well. We do another short drift and plan to pack it in by 10:30. 10:30 rolls around and we begin to crank em in. As the deep tip comes up, Kev shouts that sword is following. We feed the fish (which was definitely larger) and come tight. Fish goes nuts and somehow earns its freedom. Great night for only a few hours of fishing.

WHat a fun night.. and we pretty much only really fished until about 10:30...The third fish we saw, was probably the bigger of the 3 at maybe 100lbs...

You got that right. Best swordfishing season I've had since I started (then again, I'm not around in the winter). And of course I love the Contender. Gotta love the verados too. Nothing like getting home in less than a half hour, being able to fish hardcore, and being comfortable.

FP, LotaBull here, Ditto on the Contender, Keep us posted on the Verados because with 1200 hours on our Yamies were probably close.

Great night with the Swords, Congrats.

Greta catch guys. Were you fishing fish or squid? And at what depths?
Good job I'm glad to hear the bite continues.

Hope to see some of you guys at the Finest kind Tourney on Sept. 10th.

Had a mix spread, but the fish were chewing on squid for sure... the one we kept had a good amount of squid in him.

LotaBull, I leave on wed. the 7th, but my real classes don't start until the 19th. Looks like I have one more sword trip and one more daytime trip in me.

Thanks Scott. I had the swordslasher poon rigged and ready but we couldn't find mamma sword. I've used it twice and it went through the fish and out the other side like butter - so much easier on a big fish (the second fish was actually not that big but during a tournament).
