On Friday, Team Tiara set out on our third attempt of getting Adam's cousin his first swordfish so he would know what to expect for the Swordlord Tournament. We stop at the yellow can for livies where I fill up a sabiki rig with runners and we set the autopilot to take us to the grounds. At about 7:50 we start setting our spread and as Joey is letting out the 4th line I see the long balloon fall over and casually walk over to the reel thinking it fell off (it was only 8:05). Line starts clicking off the reel which was still not set on a heavy drag since it was going out and once I start reeling I feel a fish. The fish jumps and I see what I thought was a 150 +/- fish in mid air. Well, we get Jake suited up for battle and it's on. After about an hour he lands a BEAUTIFUL 73" LJFL with a 56" girth. Not bad for a virgin. I have to say, with all the problems he was having (legs burning, reel wobbling in the belt . . .) he did a great job on keeping tight.
