We had a late start after running aground south of Biscayne channel. We had some help off the flat and made our way out around 9 Halfway out we spun the prop. After a quick repair we agreed to continue out to the grounds. We set up our first drift at 10:30.Three rods 400,200 and 100'.The first drift was short and we had no takers. The second was a little deeper 1300' along the outside of the canyon. The recorder was marking fish but again no takers. We get ready to pull the lines when 3 dolphin come into the light big dolphin 50lbs+I turn to grab a rod an they are gone.We pull our lines and head south for our last shot. The fish on the recorder are deep around 500'.I put my two rods deep and Joel fishes his around 175'We are about 15 minutes in when the the deep rod at 400' turns under the boat and across the other rod I was fishing.I reel down and pass the rod under the other. We clear the other rod and push the drag up to about 15lbs.I gain line for about 10 minutes. When the fish starts to go down.He takes line for a little slowly then takes off fast Then the line goes slack. It felt like a sword but I cant be sure it wasnt a big shark. We never got to see it and didnt get any of my marks back before we lost it.We pack it in at 2:00 and pass the 500 or so lobster hungry mini season boats in Biscayne channel around 3am.At least it wasnt 6 hours. It was only 20 minutes.
