Default 76 Inch Swordfish In Boat after 4 Hours!

Well, this was our second time swordfishing last night (Sunday). We set out 4 live baits (all blue runners) and proceed to wait..

At about 10:30 the tip rod begins to scream.. We were fishing the drag at about 18lbs, so we just reel.. no pushing the drag up although he took us down to about 100 yards.. This rod was so heavy it was tough to get out of the rod holder and the angler into the harness.

I put my son into the harness and the fight was on.

We got the fish to the boat after about 2 hours of mostly take by the fish..

No harpoon, just an average size gaff.. I go to leader the fish and decide the fish had too much in him and it wasn't safe to hit him just yet, so I let go and my son lunges forward.. I won't do that again..

About 2 more hours goes by of having the fish on the surface and getting him reel close...

The fish does one more dive and come up and rolls over on its back.. i didn't miss this time...

Measured out at about 76 inches.. FULL of small squids. Pictures to come soon... Maybe 225lbs? Fish was hooked in the corner of the mouth however the hook was outside in...wierd?

I have you guys to thank. Been a lurker on here.. Thought I'd join when I put one in the boat..

We are definetly sword addicts now

Hey Liquid Asset:

Sounds like a good opportunity to dispense with some of your liquid inventory:

That sounds like one wonderful fish to land for your first success story. Congratulations. Hopefully that fish will not set your expectations too high since most of them rum a bit smallet than that. I'm still in quest to catch one over 200 pounds. But I am happy with the idea to catch a few smaller ones and ramp up to bigger fish. But that big fish can be swimming through at any time.

At least you were there and you got your chance. I suppose you're having fish tonight. Enjoy, especially if you're not accustomed to fresh caught swordfish.

Great catch, congradulation on entering the 200lb club. Looking foward to seeing the pictures. Welcome to the Darkside.

If you need to purchase a harpoon, I manufacture them and you can get one at any off the tackle shops that carry them. Bobby Boyle, Tommy Greens, Rays offshore, Boyds, LMR, Stalker Outfitter and Reel Pro shop.

Nice job, congrats, that is no small feat -- buy a harpoon though, its safer.
