Default Last Night's 7/14 Crazy Catch

I went out swordfishing on the south grounds yesterday with Tiara43, Moppyman and some of Tiara's friends. We set our drift and the wait is on. Food, Friends and great weather.

10:00p.m the tip rod goes off, Tiara comes comes tight on the fish, John is getting the harness on. The fish comes straight to the boat and grey hounds and before you know it it is under the boat. Then it swims out from under the boat, but the line is hung up on something. We know the fish isn't tangle up bad, so we put the reel in free spool and control the pressure with a thumb while we try to get the line freed up. The fish is on the surface about 150' out, hooked up solid and taking as much line as it wants.

Well we come to the conclusion that either someone goes in the drink, or we will lose the fish. Moppyman volunteers. He goes through the transome door and into the drink (he had some thing to cut the fishing line if he got tangled in it and a throw ring was lowered into the water for him to hold onto). He clears the line in 5 seconds the fights on and he is back in the boat safely.

About 20 minutes later Tiara sticks a nice 54 1/2 inch fish about 80-100 pounds. John's cherry is popped. Moppy gets the crazy dude award ., but like the true fisherman he is he wanted that fish in the boat .

We ran back south and reset, drifted for a couple of more hours. the lightening was getting bad so we pulled in the lines and ran back in. Another Great night out on the sword grounds.

Moppyman has all the photos and he headed down to the keys for a Mangrove Snapper Fishing Trip, so hopefully he will post the pictures tomorrow 7/16.

Moppyman has them and posted them on the other forum. We didn't get any of him in the drink. Ed and Erin were at the transome door. I was helping John with the rod/reel and line tension and Adam I think had the rope for the life ring. There was nobody left to snap a picture of Moppynut in the water.
