Default Key Largo Swords

Okay so I have talked about swording in key largo for like a year now. I tried it once and went way south in about 1200-1400 ft of water and caught two sharks. There is a 50/50 chance of going this weekend. Any information from someone who has actually had success for swords out of key largo would be appreciated.

The first time I did not fish Floyds wall. My questions are:
1) Should you stay on Floyds wall the whole time?
2) Depending on the answer to number 1, what depth? I have heard 1800-2200.
3) Is swordfishing in the keys worth it when you live due west of the hollywood hills?

Any help from someone with experience is appreciated (and there is some free steaks in it for anyone who PM's me with some decent numbers for the area).

Do you have the "swordfish chart"? I believe its #35 its from hillsboro to card sound. It should give you an idea of where to fish. Don't most people fish for swords off floyds wall down there?

I do have the swordfish chart for Hillsborough and the one for the Keys, there is a separate one for the keys. The keys chart is lacking in decent places to fish. Nothing like the hillsborough area and the keys chart does not have floyds wall on it. I used the chart on my first try and fished a canyon that dropped 250 feet. This was a 47 mile run to the south. I went there becuse it appeared to have the best bottom feature. The canyon was nice but two sharks was not worth the over 80 miles of running (I could have stayed at the dock and done the same thing)

I have been told that people fish the "ledges" straight out of key largo. I think the hole I fished was too shallow so I want to know if anyone has had success in 1800 to 2200 right out of key largo. This is deeper than I usually fish up here but it is probably where I will try next time.

Default Well ?

Bullfighter(s):

Hey, did you manage a trip down to the Keys this weekend and test the swordfishing zone?

Anything worthwhile to report? (On-line/off-line)

There is a guy by the Handle name Got Ta Go on the Florida Sportsman forum that may be able to share some info. with you if you ping him. He lives down by Cudjoe Key and never fishes up this way, Broward, Miami-Dade. But he may just have some knowledge about the upper Keys zone as well as lower Keys.

I hear there is some activity down there but mostly smaller fish as a generalization. We have it pretty good off of Gothom Sprawl City with only a 12-20 mile launch to the grounds.

Heard the yellow tails were foaming so we decided to try that instead. Got a bunch of tails, grouper and a mutton. It was pretty good. Probably a good decision because the wind started to blow pretty good around 10 pm. Were looking forward to the Sworlords Tournament.

Me and a buddy caught two swords at 1450 ft. right out front of Ocean Reef. Neither were huge but 87lbs will work for a last minute trip.

You may want to check out the maps at
http://oceancurrents.rsmas.miami.edu...athymetry.html
there looks like some good bottom east of Ocean Reef.
