Way to go Steve!! Very pretty fish. Judging by that hookset you must have been very gentle on the drag. Great job!

Damn, how big was that boat you fished? It looked kind of sporty out there. The cockpit makes that fish look small and I know it isnt.

We were on a 35 cabo... I was fishing with 2 gentlmen over 70... It was definately interesteing. Especially when the swivle hit the rod tip and I saw that it cam unsnapped! ouch... No more snap swivles for me! I am definately not a fan of heavy drags. I backed it off when i knew he was hooked. Probably around 15-20lbs max

What causes the pumpkin coloration of the flesh and why does it seem that these fish are caught in the Flordia straights and you never here of a punpkin being caught in the Northern Gulf Coast? It seems that swords eat pretty much the same diet no matter were they are caught. Do ya'll get more pumpkins during a curtain time of the year?

Thanks, Angelo

Shweet pumpkin!! Congrats. That's one nasty hook placement...no pullin there.

Those skippies on the deck are off the hook sword baits. Hope ya rig a few head down for future use.

I buy that answer, but boats fishing the Gulf of Mexico cacht plenty of royal reds. Yet we don't see any pumpkins in this part of the world.I have heard shrimp giving tuna there high fat content which is why some fish have the deep red red color like stewberry jam. I have not noticed any ryme or reason why some fish have the grade A flesh and others don't. I will say this the tuna caught on the lump feeding on menhan which have a high oil content generally have a lower quality flesh than those caught during the summer and fall monthes. I have not notice were fight time and fish size makes a differance in quality of meat in tuna. It justy seems that some fish grade out better than others. With that being said is there a better explination as to why some swords are pumpkins.
