Went out Saturday morning with Martini, Dirtyfoot and Capt Schock to try after several frustrating efforts to finally get Butch his first daytimer swordfish.
We cleared Boynton at 8 am and the ocean was beautiful with huge swells coming out of the North pushing us south to the grounds. There was scattered grass and birds were flocking on some small tunas. We were focused on swordfish though and were dropping by 9 but had no bites for the first two drops. We picked up and moved a little and when we dropped again we hit bottom and then the weight seemed to have fallen off-the line became weightless. We came tight and found that wehad a nice fish on! We slowly gained line and finally got him to the boat where Butch put the harpoon into him and Chris finished him with the gaff. Nice team work! And a nice fat 66 inch pumpkin. Butch celebrated with a Braveheart impression-check out the pictures! Now its noon and we figure why not drop again. Sure enough we get another bite and work him to the surface. He is smaller and we would have released him but he had been hooked in the throat and was pretty much dead so he went into the box as well. Still, he measured 52 inches and was a nice rosy pink color. We dropped one more time to see if they would eat a bluefish. Never felt a bite but the bait came up scaled with the hook torn out of it.

Thanks Dan. Forgot to mention that we also "caught" someones daytime rig with 2 LP lights, some swivels, a windon leader and a weight. No hooks or fish though. It was on the bottom. and somehow we snagged it. It did have me scaratching my head when it was coming up.

I just wanted to thank the doc, martini, and butch for a great day of fishing. I had a great time and look forward to doing some more swording with some people who are just as addicted (if not more) to landing that daytime slob! What a great group of guys. Thanks Again.

Great job Richard and crew. You and Bill are on a hot streak lately. Thats the reason the boat is named what it is, it's more than just a name. If you ever need a boat washer give a shout, all i charge is a ride out and back.On a side note, I talked to "Chips Ahoy" today, they got a 300# and a 150# last night (sat). |
