Went out Last Thursday 8/14/08 with Will (Bonnie & Clyde), Jocko and Dax. We had the fish God on our side, literally! Jocko brought along a Voodoo Fish God he got in N.O.
![]() Tried to get some runners to no avail so we made the run out to get a deep drop in before sundown. First rig snagged the bottom, quickly reset and 5 mins. later we're tight on a Sunshine Sword. Dax was on the rod and manually brought up a pup to the boat. I've never caught a daytimer much less manually and I can tell you I couldn't imagine cranking up a big fish from those depths. From watching Dax fight this guy you'd think it was 200+. Nice work Dax. No pics, of this one, we released it so fast, I wasn't ready. ![]() At this point it's already dark so we head out to the spot to set the first drift. No sooner than we get the full spread of 8 rods out, bam, fish on! This time Will's up to bat. He gets strapped in and shortly thereafter brings in this guy. ![]() We get back to the spot and reset the spread and a half hour later we're tight agin. This time I'm up. I'm not extremely familiar with Will's Black majik harness and I strap it wrong and it kept slipping. I fought this gal for a good hour and 10 minutes. She went 54 in. with a 30 in girth. Pumpkin! The fight was a hell of a lot harder as I had the second hook slip and caught her in the side. So I kept thinking I had a bigger fish that kept turning on me. But she made 3-4 really strong runs where we saw the color markings on the line tear off! ![]() ![]() ![]() Me and the Fish God fighting the fish... ![]() After the cleanup we reset for another go at it. We got tight again on another quality fish only to have her spit the hook 20 minutes into the fight. A couple minutes later she comes back to tease us and swims right into our light. A nice fish too. We scramble to get some baits into the water column up next to the boat. We didn't have the poon reset yet either. She leaves only to come back for one last turn in the light to rub it in and she flicks us off as we watch her sink away. About an hour or so later we called it a night. A good night! Great to be back out there gain and the bite looks to be picking up after a slow start to Summer. Thanks agin Will (Bonnie & Clyde) and Jocko and Dax. Had a great time. My favorite pic. R.I.P ![]() The God of Fishing wishes all of you tight lines and fair seas!!!!!! ![]()
