Went out of St. Lucie and was setup on a 4 knt North drift by 8:15. Pretty stiff breeze out there but still very nice. Had a great set deployed, 1 at 50, 1 at 200 and a tip rod at 400 ft. Drift was in 1250 ft between Lake Worth and Jupiter. Just finished dinner and saw the tip rod bounce,
Fed it a little and slammed it into gear and reeled like mad . About 30 minutes later we boated this nice fat little 50" sword. First one for my boat, my second fish. First one I caught was too small . Well We pulled up and were back in by 11:00. Just finished carving him up and vacu sealing all that sweet meat. Enjoy the pics. BTW, it was a blue dyed squid w/ a purple LP light 50' away from the squid. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Congratulations Krisis7, you got your first keeper!
(Did you try the online reporting system?) From the photos, it looks like you are preserving the fish steaks with some TL care. FYI - For fish that I would like to keep in the freezer for a while and not necessarily give away to friends/family, I will keep the fish in loined sections and vacuum seal it in that form, with skin on. In that way, less surface of the fish is exposed to air, etc. before packaging, the steaks will not bow on you, and you can peel the skin off (before fully defrosting) if you choose to do so. Also, you have the option to cut the steaks to any thickness you choose for a particular meal. Just a preference that I thought I would share with you now that you will be catching more.

Thanks for the advice (over the radio) to move in shallower Friday night. We were in the middle of our second drift when we picked up to come in a little closer. As soon as we got the lines all back in our tip rod got tight. Fought for about 20 mins and lost the fish 50ft from the boat. For some reason the 6lb test line didn't break and the weight I think played a role in why we lost him. But from the drag it was pulling it wasn't that big. After resetting we had one more slashed bait.
i am looking at doing another trip this friday. Have you guys been reading about these monster dolphin swiming around eating schoolies? I think I might have to hang a couple little dolphins from my kite this weekend. |
