I believe it was a Giant Thresher, over 5 hours, released.

Default Pumpkin Eater

New member, long time reader... I was out there Friday before the tournament and talked to Pumpkin Eater on the radio...after about 4 hrs I thought he said they came up with a 500 +lbr (sword)......said they revived and released... (could have heard wrong, radio's not set up over loud speakers)

A 500lb sword gets revived as dinner... not revived and released.

I would release a 500 pound sword. Half because I have a lot of respect for a fish that size and half because there is no way it could get into my boat

Default 500+

Sorry for the long delay to this post. Had a charter Fri. night, 2 great
guys from England. We got together at 15th street. The first question was would it be ok to release anything they caught and without hesitation I told them no problem. It was their trip lets have fun and off we went. Half hour after dark the tip rips off a ton of line and game on I had John Herndon with me, same guy we caught the 545 pounder with, he said Holy crap this thing is fighting harder than our big sword. Both guys are in 60's and fought the fish like pro's. At no time was the rod ever in the rodholder!

Gram was on the rod first for 2hrs and 20min then Bob finished the fish off 2hours 15min later It was not a sword but fought like one the whole time. It was a 500+ Thresher. When the fish got close thinking it was a sword we got the tag stick out. John and I looked at each other and said this is going to feel good. As we have it wrong species.

The fight was still just amazing, I would like to take the time to thank everyone who gave way to us a big

The shark was revived completely then released.

The reason for the long delay is, I got home from charter around 4am and then loaded the truck up to go to GA and NC for a much needed vacation. That's a whole different story!

Have a few pictures of the shark and will try to insert later. We just got home!
