Broadbill 4-14-08 south Texas

We put our first sword of the year in the boat last night. We went one for one. The sword hit a medium size squid on the drop about 100' foot down. It went 52" @ 70# not much of a fight on the 80w. Did some deep dropping and got 4 escolar of some type maybe Roudi or ? some other kind still checking on the ID. It's a long haul for sword over here around 80 miles each way. We envy you guys on the east side of FL runn ing 10-20 mile for a evening of swording.

Nice fish. Don't envy FL too much. Sword reports have not been very good.

Damn, y'all sacked the escolar's ass! Just don't make a big meal of those fellahs or you'll have the shits. I've had them as sushi a few times and they're great, though. Small portions is the key.

The fish in the last photo looks like a bearded brotula, which are often erroneously called "cusk eels." Cusk eels are a bit different. Did that critter have some barbels under his chin? Did you catch him on bottom in >350' of water? Got any other pics of him?

Default Escolar? Snake mackeral

I tried to eat some of filets last night. It was full of small bones. The meat looked great but , the bone factor was to much to eat around.
