Whoah!

On hook and line that slob would be a world rec by hundreds of lbs.

Thanks for sharing photos and great posts from NZ.

I'd love to try to troll squid here.

Could not find colour version of harpooned sword but it does not look as big as in b/w. Nevertheless, sure is a big fat fish.
The biggest swords ever caught on rod and line is a fairly short list, here is top ten:
1182 Louis Marron 1953 Chile
937 Arthur Hall 1953 Chile
860 W.E.S Tuker 1940 Chile
853 S Kip Farrington 1941 Chile
849 George Garey 1938 Chile
846 Mrs Lowe/G. Garey 1941 Chile (disq. 2 anglers)
837.5 W.E.S Tuker 1934 Chile
813.5 Gerry Garrett 2003 New Zealand (80lb test)
800 George Garey 1939? Chile

I found the color pic. in the Fishermen's Voice March 2006. It did not metion the weight. Wonder how many giant's were pooned that size and never documented?

That's the one.
My guess is it would certainly make the "all-time list" but not exactly blow it away.
Regardless, I would like to see one like that on the end of my line!
Considering the biggest Atantic sword on rod and line is barely over 600, then that fish is a giant.

If I reeled that fish up next to the boat I would have to change my shorts and do a nut check before throwing the dart at it.That would be a I think we need a bigger boat moment.

I'd reach for the flyer in the hopes of preserving a potential record and leave the harpoon in the boat...

I might grab the flyer to defend myself if it wanted to have a sword fight.

I would be more afraid of that sword then any other fish that size.Including a Mako,White or Marlin.

That fish is not as big as it first looks. Check out the rope diameter at the tail - it's all about the perspective. Look at this picture - this is a 25lb yellowfin! It is still a fat fish though...

Sorry there Tunak that is a huge sword. That rope on the tail looks like doubled up 1in rope. Then it is at least 7ft from deck to overhang with another 3 or 4ft of sword on deck. Not to mention that thing is fat to the tail.It might not be 2,000lbs but it is all of 800lb +++.Maybe 1,000lbs.Would love to have seen that fish for myself.

Definately a big fish I agree - but like you say not 2000 - 800 to 1200 more like it.
