Didn't get out to the grounds until 8pm. Send out the 3 buoys and one tip to 300. While sending out a second tip, pops notices the first tip creeping and stop. Then when see a short slow drag pull and it stops. I tell dad on the count of three reel like crazy the fish is there. He starts to reel and gets tight. After a about 5 minute we put the harness on an this fish is coming to the boat pretty easy. 30 mins at 20+ lbs of drag (I am thinking smaller fish) I get the weight off, well when I touched the line he must have realized he was hooked. He nearly dumped the 50 with a lot of drag on him. We recovered and he did the same thing again, dump the reel. Now its an hour into the fight with a lot of heat on the fish straight up and down the whole time. All of a sudden the line gets slack we big fish with some shoulders. Fished for another 1-1/2 hour with no other bites.

Good try guys.
What was the depth of the water when you got the bites? (Not the depth of your baits.) |

We were 0 for 2. It looked like we were skiing in the middle of the gulfstream. The current was up to 6.7 mph, so we had the drag pretty tight to keep the line on the spool. At about 8 pm we noticed the tip rod getting wacked. We grabbed the rod and let him run for about 10 sec. before setting up. When we tried to get tight to set up, the fish was gone. An hour later, the short rod goes off screeming. I let the fish run for about 10 seconds before setting up, finally a solid hookup. The fish peeled about 100 yards of line and all of a sudden took a 180 degree turn. I reeled as fast as I could and got tight on him again. He then began taking out another 100 yards and then did the same thing he had done before, coming towards the boat quickly. I was watching the LP light get closer and closer to the boat then it stopped moving. When I caught up with the LP light, the fish was gone. We decided to head back shortly after due to increased winds. NOAA really screwed up this time.
