Went out Friday night out of Jupiter inlet. Started our first drift around the V spot. The bite was red hot. First fish was the only one we kept. Didn't put him on the scale but i would guess it was around 80-90lbs. The second sword was easily over 175lbs I hand fed right at the boat. Right after I had just clipped on the green glow stick the line was ripped out of my hand. The squid was no more than 20 feet behind the boat. At first I thought my buddies we just screwing with me until we all looked down and saw the sword sitting right underneath the boat in the lights. It made another pass and I felt him pick up the squid while I had it in free spool. After a 5 second count I locked up the drag and then the fight was on. After about 40 minutes I decided to put a little more drag on him which I think is the reason we eventually lost him.... With the drag locked up I was able to get the fish to the boat in a little over 20 mins. Everything was going perfect. I got the clip into the first eye of the rod and my brother wired him up with-in gaffing range (5ft) and before my friend could get the gaff in him the hook just slide right out of its mouth. I think the extra drag that I put on late into the fight caused the hook to pull on the mouth opening up a hole where the hook was set.
It was very disappointing! BUT we got back south and before I could get all the lines out again a fish was on. It was a little pup but still a fish in the boat. All in all it was a great trip because my brother and our friend both caught there first Broadbill. I was going to post some pictures but can't get it to work for some reason. |

Nice work!
Friday night was slow and you guys raised em. Way to go. We caught our only fish at 2:00 a.m., a little feller that barely reached 40". It was our only hit that night. J |
