Took off from Boynton Sun Morning with my long time friend Bill and new time friend Harry on the Fish Magnet. We ran down to Pompano and first drop the line suddenly goes slack and we are wondering if our weight broke off. We start reeling in the line and suddenly there is weight but no real pressure -it isnt pulling and we are wondering what we have. Is it a small fish or what?
We get the fish to within about 200 feet when all of a sudden it decides it doesnt want to be on the surface and starts pulling major drag off of my LP. It goes back and forth for a bit and finally we get him close but no before he does a few jumps at the surface and shows himself off. We decide to stick him with the Poon and then we get him with the flying gaff, but he wants no part of what we are selling and shakes off the gaff and takes off with the dart. He also broke the 100 lb mono windon so all we are connected to him with is the dart. We pull him close to the boat three times and each time he takes off again pulling rope. Finally we get him close enough to hit him with the flyer and end the deal. He was too big to bring over the side and barely fit thru the tuna door-We had to cut off his dorsal fin to get him in. He was a pumpkin and taped out at 91 inches LJF and had a circumference of 61 inches. By calculations he was 423 lbs. We did three more drops and had bites on all three but didnt come tight again and finally went home to butcher the monster and get ready for a Giants victory. What a great day!!! |

Great catch. What a slob.
The slobs are around for sure with several 450-500 pounders caught in the last few days. Way to go. Juan |
