On Wed., we finally had a crew together and decided to head out to the swording grounds and give it another try. All the crew members were doubtful we would catch anything due to this weeks moon phase. We set up our drift, put on the music, poured some drinks and began to wait.. The crew members weren't that optimistic, when they saw that we were the only ones out there within a 24 mile radius. I told them worse case, we would get a nice buz and we would head back in early. As soon as the moon came up, our 200ft line goes slack and our marker with the light goes down. I retreived the line as fast as I could and got tight on him in less than a minute. He took a short run and I had the sword within gaffing range within 15 min. We had a fat 52" in the boat. We reset all of our lines and as we began to pour more drinks our 250' line goes off. I picked up the slack and set up on the fish. I could tell he was a lot bigger than the first one. I gave the rod over to one of my buddies so that his daughter could take a good video of him fighting the fish. It was a constant tug-a-war. Buddy would bring the fish in within view and the sword would take out 200-300 yards. This went on for about 45 min., then all of a sudden the fish spit out the hook. What a dissapointment. It was a long ride home, but at least we were 1/2 for the night.
On Thursday we decided to go out again and arrived at the grounds at about 7:30pm. To our surprise, there we about 10 boats fishing all around us. We set up all of our baits but this time I decide to go with bigger squids and all double hooked. We went with the same technique. After setting up our drift, we began pouring the drinks as we listen to the music jamming from the IPOD. We were about to pass through jurassic park(our honey hole) when one of my buddies noticed something different from what we had done the previous night. This night, we were listening to a different playlist on my Ipod. After realizing this, we proceeded to put on the same reggae playlist we had on the night before . I think this is what made the difference. 15 minutes go by and we hear the 200 ft rod going off. I get tight on him and he decides to make a couple of 100 yard runs. After about 20 minutes, we had a fat 54" in the cooler. I looked at the plotter and noticed that we were still in our honey hole and quickly set up all the lines again. When we were ready to start with our ritual, the crew members were shocked to learn that the Bacardi Limon had run out. They couldn't believe it. All hell was breaking loose. They were all ready to go home. But as a seasoned fisherman I was prepared. I went over to one of my secret compartments and to everyones surprise, I brought out another 1.75 liter bottle of the miracle brew. Yes, another bottle of Bacardi Limon. Our crew were all smiling again and we began pouring the drinks once again. We were all at the stern having great conversations on how the Universe was created, the big bang theory and the existance of a God and a whole bunch of great other topics. You guessed it, to my astonishment, all of my crew members were drunk. It was hard to believe, especially after only having about 1.5 bottles of Bacardi.. 30 min. went by and I noticed the first or second rod on the bow making a little clicker noise. I go over to the rods and stand next to them. I didn't know if it was the first or the second rod making the noise, since we were all at the stern when the clicker went off. After about 10 seconds, the 300 ft. rod starts screaming.. I had never seen a Sword take off line like that. It looked like I had a wahoo on. I picked it up and put in on free spool. After about 5 seconds, I put the rod on strike and set up on him 5 or 6 times. This time I was going to let the hooks do their job. We had a solid hookup. The sword decided to stay on the surface almost the whole time I had him on the line. I could tell he was a nice fish. I fought the fish for about 30 minutes with over 18 lbs of drags till I had him within gaffing range. We put a couple of hooks in him and put the beast on the deck. We had a nice 62" fatty in the boat and decided to call it a night. The ride back was a little bumpy, but it did not discourange us from celebrating on our return to port. Nice way to close out 2007 with a bang. Tight lines. Max'd Out fishing Team. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
