Default new thread - if you don't mind

what is the status of BWA's request to allow the 13 LL boats back in at this time?

Status quo!

The meeting went very well. Orderly with no incident. This was considerably more interactive than the original meeting at the Library. A solid 2 hours of discussion.

Dr. Hogarth and Margo listened intently. There was a lot of light shed today. Several points raised their eyebrows and I noticed they were taking notes. It may not have made any difference. We won't know that until the decision is made.

My take is that Dr Hogarth and Margo were surprised at how well we Rec's peeled away the veil of BS that was in the EFP request. I believe he and Margo probably left with a different opinion than when they first arrived.
The entire EFP reguest was totally dissected and picked apart by the various representatives and was shown to be nothing more than a guise to get back into the closed area to make some fast bucks. Interestingly, the pll's ulterior motive is to target other species (tunas, wahoo, mahi etc) in addition to swords. With the knowledge Dr Hogarth has on this request ... as written ... I feel there is no way he should approve the PLL guys back into this closed area to repeat the fishery collaps of the 70's and 80's.

This is a start:

We need to start sending emails to the following people.
Bill.Hogarth@noaa.gov
Margo.schulze-haugen@noaa.gov
Russell.dunn@noaa.gov
Randy.blankenship@noaa.gov

Also, send emails to Congressman Ron Kline and Senator Bill Nelson. Their contact info is available at myflorida.com.
Dr Hogarth said he had a letter from Sen Martinez in his briefcase, but had not heard from any other FL Representatives at that point. So get your letters sent asap ... the public comment period was extended to April 24.
