RT, QQ, TD, I've finally figured this out. Here's the new World record Bull. He's the largest taken with any weapon. Hats off to Greg Gorham for a clean shot and a great accomplishment. This Elk was killed with a bow in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. He green scored 575" and should net out at about 530" non typical. He has and unbelievable outside spread of 79".
Rekin dem boys are happy?
I know it's off topic but thought you flatlanders might enjoy a little bit of heaven!!!

I've got one more hunt next weekend for my daughter, then hopefully I'm coming down to help you boys with the quota. I need a fresh sword pic to post, besides, I'm outa fish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

Default You killed the beast

Reeltherapy:

You're outa fish. How can that be? Oh, because you are spending time in some of our pretty country.

Congratulations on the Elk. That is one wild beast. Even if it was not a world record, but you say that one is, they are some mighty fine eats. I hope you're bringing home a lion's share with you, or Greg will. It sounds like he got him by an excellent shot with an arrow. Good show. I haven't done that before either. But a guy I know plugged an empty Budweiser can at 100 yds. with his Bow settup. It was a bet, probably for a full Bud, but he did it. He is very precise but he did get lucky for that one. I suppose he was thirsty. And I don't think that he has ever stayed at a Holiday Inn express.

Maybe I have to show you the ways of Zen and the fine art of Paella cooking, hillbilly edition, a/k/a with ingredients from Terra Firma. Man, it is only 8 am EST and I am getting hungry already. Your killin me here, in the flatlands.

Thanks for sharing a little bit of your story. It's even got me going. The mind is racing. The family is thinking about going to Jackson, WO sometime within the next 365. Now I am also thinking of timing. I have never been hunting for them thar critters before and have some clue about the difficulty involved, but I've got the boots and ready to go, the rifle is zeroed in, all I need now is a good target. It don't have to be a record, it just needs to be able to fit in the freezor.

Reel T - now that you figured out photobucket... Did you know that you can upload your better pictures into an album. Then you can send the link to family and friends to share with them on-line. If your friends/family like the pictures, they can choose to print them, for a fee (that's why photo bucket offers the space at no charge). And your friends will have priceless photos until the 21st century. If you've got any more photos that you would like to share, you've got a flatlander fan with a hankerin for the hills. MBaumstark@Comcast.net . See you at the HI buoy when you get back down this way. There is a fishing tournament this weekend but it is windy, so don't know if it will alternate to another slot. But I am not in for this one.

Hope you have a chance to get down here before the snow birds beat you to it. RT

QQ,

Don't like more commercial pressure in the area. If NMFS wants to help the commercial fleet then issue price controls (we do it for sugar) and limit importation. Adding 20% to the price of wholesale swordfish will do more to help the commercial fleet than 20% more fish taken from the waters. The idea that ICCAT will take away our quota when the US is the second largest consumer of Swordfish in the world is a weak assumption, does anybody understand global commerce and the leverage the US has. I like the idea of head boats taking more catch but 10 per night would a tough bar to reach.

I have to agree with Darkside. We have ourselfs to blame for a large part of this problem. I personally have called in every fish I have have ever caught. Those of us who have not are the reason that we need the longliners "Help" to increse the numbers for this area.

We need to put up the numbers without there "help". We need to educate our own to the importance of having some numbers.

REPORT YOUR CATCH

Neptune:

It is great that you bring this idea to the table on the forum. (Thanks, got your PM too. )

I have been pondering this idea over the past few days. I think it is a very good suggestion, but somehow I kind-of dismissed it as a reasonable solution. I was thinking along the lines of tariffs and such, but was thinking if it would be a logistics challenge to focus in on just swordfish, when there are also so many seafood imports. You mentioned sugar: good point. Obviously, this would raise the bar for commercial prices and the end result would be higher prices to the consumer. The domestic fleet would be able to get a better price. However, with all of these free trade policies floating around: this idea too may be a bit of an uphill struggle. And if it stands out among all the rest, it may be a little bit goofy. I think some particular politician is citing this as a reason why things should not be done this way. Rather than goofy, I would prefer to describe it an an inconsistency. So if it is inconsistent with all the rest, it may not be an appropriate reason. But if there is a compelling reason, by all means, then there should be reasonable consideration. I'm not sure if we have quite felt the complete backlash of offshore outsourcing yet. But for the moment, cheap Chinese goods somehow have us wrapped up with the $price of things. When people finally become sick and tired, of inferior quality goods and wares, due to poor quality, the sticker shock of a superior good may become, a little bit less objectionable. It that state of mind, a swordfish tariff would be a wee bit more pallatable.

Man, I just wish that I had taken that International Commerce course as an elective while in college. Instead I studied the natural resources of China. Cést la vie. Although, I did at least do Economics as an elective, while in Junior College, . Guns and Butter just seemed so much more interesting, compared to Basket weaving: they did not have Bait Rigging 101 or Build your own Wind-ons on the curriculum.

Same here, and I've reported my share trust me.
Since this Fisheries is exploding, maybe it's time for NMFS
to make it easy to report your catch. Sometimes you get your
callback days later, and then if you miss the call, you gotta play the phone tag game,
multiply this by X, and it gets crazy!!

They have online reporting fot Atlantic BFT, why not do this for Swordfish?
http://www.nmfspermits.com/permitidlandings.asp
Something like this would be nice and easy, and for some maybe feel
more comfortable reporting online than talking to a live person.
Sonething to think about...

Good Idea! That would be much better than the phone tag like you said.

The SESC suggested that three years ago and it was spoken to deaf ears.

We could run a free fourm tournament each month. No entry fee, no prizes. You would report your catch on the site on the honor system. This would take advantage of the rule stating that indivdule anglers don't need to report if they are caught as a part of a tourney. A tourney "offical" would then report all of the fish once a month. I know something similar was set up for the SSC.

This may be an option. If people could report on line on a site that they visit anyway they may be inclined to do so. It would at least remove one more excuse.

What do you think Mike? Would you be willing to host this? Perhaps we could open up the one that is allready in place.
