Set the date guys... September 27, 2006 from 7 -9 PM at the Broward County Main Library which is at 100 South Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301.
Since we all were scratching our heads wondering why they didn't have a meeting in SFLA.... well now we got what we wanted so we all should save the date and show up in force. I don't see this as a meeting to bash NMFS but instead listen to what they are doing and take it all in. Remember the Staights and our local waters are off limits to longlining and it doesn't seem this is going to change. We as Rec Anglers just need to be seen and heard if we want to be taken seriously. The big picture as I see it is the "Quota" and how we (the USA) may or may not loose our percentages of it. C-Ya there on the 27th! -Tek |

I am glad that you are making the effort to make it down to Fort Lauderdale. Thank you for your effort. Please keep it going and pass the word in every way you can. Man, I hope that this turns out big time. Bobby Boyle, President of the Southeast Swordfishing club has organized a small task force of well respected members of the (rod and reel and handgear) swordfishing community to get organized and concisely vocal on preserving the closed areas, in spite of efforts to receive recommendations on how to catch more fish. This should be an intersting evening, with lot's of friendly faces to meet, and hopefully a lot in common. Certainly, there is expected proposals on how to catch more fish; however, the single main immediate purpose to be rallyed upon from the "recreational interests" is to keep the closed areas closed from Commercial longlining. The final determination may not be pretty but without a massive effort from the recreational community to stand in absolute solidarity to express a "a voice sounding in unison", the actual results could be ugly. That is why it is so important to set this evening aside for every swordfishing angler (recreational, charter boat or handliner) that has an interest in fishing the coastal waters, to show up for this meeting. Thank you all that are driving from locations that are 2 or more hours away, for this meeting. We need to keep a unified voice to be extremely effective. Refined articulations of more specific recommendations will happen later as there is sufficient time to hash out details. You guys that are coming from out of town, we may just to have to meet over at Tarpon Bend, a cool little place in downtown Ft. L. nearby, after the meeting, if you have time for a little more discussion after the main event. Neptune - I believe the agenda from the recrational turnout and keynote speakers will be short and sweet: keep the closed zones closed. NMFS agenda is to hear recommendations on how to land more fish. I hope to see you there. |

Risktaker,
Thank you for and all involved for your support as well I believe this is just to important to miss.!! I agree that AT this gathering WE need to keep our emotions in check and listen to what NMFS has to say. MY hope is that when NMFS see the overwhelming support from the Swordfishing Rec. anglers standing together, That our presence their will be viewed as one voice. If NMFS only walk away with one message from this meeting (at this point), It hopefully will be............... ..................................................WE CARE AND ARE WATCHING......................................... Getting together afterward sounds good. Looking forward to see some old friends and making so new ones

Get there early and check in at the tables in front. Bobby Boyle will be there with his staff to collect names. The first 200 people will get shirts to wear when in the meeting. The biggest part of this night will be to show NMFS that we are one solid group of anglers all wanting the same thing.
The statement that Bobby will deliver one my behalf is that we want to keep what we currently have... plain and simple. So if you like the way it is, get there early and get a cool shirt. -Tek Reel Pro Shop, Inc. |
