Default simple question...

I would like to know still what it takes to get a commercial swordfish permit for me to go catch some swords. I asked about this to a couple people on here and got no response at all. I know some people have paid dearly for their permits and I don't want them pissy about this but I think by my American right to have a permit I should get more answers. I have been fishing my whole life and I had and lost a kingfish permit once due to my boat truck and trailer getting wiped out on hwy 95 coming back home. that was a sucked out thing to deal with and the laws are not so great when it comes to being fair sometimes. I do ok just fishing but I think there should be some explanation on this. hope to get some response before the meeting but I will be there and still ask the same question. seems we set rules for ourselves and let everyone else do what they want. just want a permit to do it right that's all. thanks in advance for your responses. Ted

I could be wrong, but I don't think you can legally do that

Swordstalker you are dead wrong. Everybody knows that you can trade
swordfish for money legally. It is however illegal to sell it.
too funny...

...talking about the Sword Club meeting July 15th. One of the main topics will be the upcoming NMFS public hearing regarding General Category permits. The hearing is taking place at the Broward Public Library, July 28th, starting at 5pm.

Ted... will you be at the Sword Club meeting? Bring me some vials!

I missed the orignal post so this might be to late... But here's the facts taken from the 635 regs.

(3) Swordfish. A person that receives, purchases, trades for, or barters for Atlantic swordfish from a fishing vessel of the United States, as defined under §600.10 of this chapter, must possess a valid dealer permit.
