havent been out since the numbers dropped from 1-3 a night to no bites in 5-7 tries - happened to be about the same time the blinkies abounded.

anybody got a fish lately?

hows the LL EXPERIMENT doing?

It's not the buoy guys. It's not the one LL boat in the experiment. A HIGHLY MIGRATORY FISH is... well... highly migratory. They just aren't around right now like they usually are.

Don't try to stir the pot for the sake of having a debate that's been hashed out over and over. It's annoying.

I was thinking about this the other day. Last winter was great as was the summer, but yes it seems to have slowed. But a couple years ago when we had a poor run of dolphin for 2 years we didn't think the buoys guys or the LL'ers got em all. But in the past 3 years, dolphin fishing has been insane. Like the post above, HMS! Makes sense to me.

yeah, that makes sense. just because the amount of rec. caught fish plummeted about the same time as the comm. caught fish skyrocketed must be a coincidence.

No, they didn't. Last fall/winter was on fire, and everyone was catching fish. The fishing for the past few months has been slow for everyone, commercial and recreational. Lots of the buoy gear fishermen have not been fishing because it has been so slow. They are highly migratory, and fish just haven't been pushing through the area.

The buoy gear fishermen have been around for several years, and the fishing the past couple of falls/winters has been on fire.

rollin, how can you blame slow fishing on the buoy fishing. have you ever done it. do you really know what they catch. well i do, i have done it for the past two years and the numbers are not nearly as good as you think, people are not going out and having 1000lb nights the average night for us is between 250-300lbs a night. so before you go complaining about slow fishing why dont you just accept the fact that it is slow for everyone and the fish have migrated.

I would love to blame the slow bite on the buoy gear, but they would have to be catching something to hurt the bite!

Fact is, most of the guys fishing buoys were the ones catching 5 or more fish a night anyway, now they are just doing it with buoys. And yes, when the bite is on, they catch more with buoys than rod and reel, but the numbers just don't support any blame here.

Does anyone remember when the swordfish club first started? It started because we went months after months with hardly a bite to talk about, so we starte meeting and sharing tips to try to figure out wht happened.

Nothing happened, the fishing is cyclical and we are going thru another cycle of very few fish on the surface or in our area.

Remember where are fish have gone when we tag them, anywhere from Venezuela to Grand Cayman, to Turks, and far east of the Bahamas.

Hang in there, they'll be back.

And for the question on the LL Experiments??? They aren't catch crap either!

I blame the reduction in pirates.
Which we all know is the cause of global warming.
Which makes the fish less hungry becasue their electric bills have gone up due to the increased cost of fuel becasue they can't run their ac as cool as they used to.
Which makes me less hungry so it of course means the fish are less hungry.
So we need to make new powerplants in ANWAR and run all our boats on wheat grass ethanol.

and eat more tacos.

I am not a real math guy, but it would seem to me if the bouy guys are fishing here more, and they probally fish much more freguently than the rec guys, then they are taking more fish. If they take one a night that is still 7 more gone that week that I will not have a chance of stumbling into. It may not have a huge effect but it is sure impossible to have no effect no matter how small.

I didnt imply anything in my text, and I dont really feel I have any more right to them than the bouy guys. I actually have my commercial license thou I dont do much of anything with it, I do respect their right to make a living as much as my right to fish fo fun. I was only stating that is impossible for them to have no effect on the fishery. What effect it has on this specific area I will leave that to someone much smarter than me to figure out. If anything I was implying that I should have first chance on those 7 fish the hell with the rest of the rec guys. - that was a joke before you guys all go nuts. Since I know it seems to be the way all forums work, it is like a highschool debate.
