Default What will Hogarths Departure mean for the Exempt Fishery Permits?

Dr. Hogarth has made it very clear that he openly supports the Pelagic Longline Fishery and has mad statements that he would protect its future.

Obviously that has been a driving force in the push for opening up the FEC closed zone to PLL's in spite of convincing scientific evidence that the only real mitigating factor in reducing bycatch was the closing of high interaction zones like the FEC.

Oh , but now things have changed. We know that our governor Charlie Christ has taken a very strong stand against any opening of the closed zone. We also know that The STate of Florida has been stepped on by NOAA and HMS by ignoring the previous comments on EFP's, and trying to push them thru agian with the "research" stamp of NMFS on the Bluewater Proposal to fish the FEC.
Now we find that Dr. Hogarth is leaving NOAA to become Dean of the School of Marine Science at University of South Florida. He now is in the position where he needs the funding and support of the governors office and the State Legistature and he must find a way to make amends if he in fact lets the EFP's go thru.

Lets watch the next few weeks and we'll see what terms Hogarth leaves on before he comes back to the State of Florida which will be the most hurt by any mistakes in the current closed zone.

Dr. Hogarth, if you read this, go back and review Governor Christ's letter before you approve and EFP's for the inconceived "research fishing".

It is going to be a wild ride.Who ever is appointed to take over for him will only be for 1 yr.The next president will appoint the next guy.So in a little over 1yr we will have 3 different people with the power to approve or disapprove efp permits.

Ron your full of BS, the driving force to open the closed areas is the ICCAT quota and you know it! You continue to spread fear in the recreational sector. If anyone doubts it ask Ellen Peel from TBF she will confirm Horgarths situation in regard to losing ICCAT quota and what will happen to your recreational fishery once it is reduced.

Charlie Christ is a putz, the letter he wrote to NOAA confirmed it and the Seminole Gambling deal made him the champion putz. His disapproval of the EFP's came without an understanding of the species, an understanding of ICCAT and what they do, an understanding of swordfish imports or the effect it has on American Fisherman and the US economy.

He's is not only a putz, he is negligent in his duties and an embarrassment to this State.

He has about as much of a clue on swordfishing as he does on being a governor!
