I know it is more than likely a dumb question but does anyone have an honest to god answer to why only pole spears are allowed in the bahamas and if you are a resedent....or stationed there (IE military) if you are still to ablide by that reg??

You can fish with a spear gun only if you are a Bahamian and have a permit to possess the spear gun. There are certain fishes that you may not use a spear gun at all to harvest. I think that if you are a spear fisherman the pole spear is more effective on the reefs in any event.
