Rod-Man report June 2, 2006
Hi Folks, It is all biting...it being the fish. We have caught flounder, reds, blacks, spanish, kings and cobia this week. Many of us...us being charter captains, think this is starting out to be one of the best years in recent memory. Let's hope it keeps going. Now here's my report: Inshore: Flounder are biting on the rising tide, hitting live bait fished on carolina rigs. Best fishing is in the inlets and the river. Reds and blacks are hitting live and dead bait fished around the docks and pilings from Wrightsville Beach to Carolina Beach. Best time is falling tide. Blues are biting jigging spoons and just about any kind of bait in the inlets. Near shore: Spanish mackerel are plentiful and good size. Best action has been on clarkspoons trolled behind #1 planers and on the surface behind small bird rigs. Cobia are biting just off the beach around structure and the AR's. Best bait is live menhaden fished on a fishfinder rig. Small snake kings are biting as close as 2 miles off the beach on clarkspoons. Offshore: Larger kings are biting at the 10 to 25 mile areas and a few reports of a stay mahi or two have been reported. Flying fish are in as close as 15 miles. Gulfstream: The stream is producing wahoo, tuna and mahi, along with the occasional billfish. WOW! The fishing is great. I have so many great pics that picking a pic of the week is hard, but don't miss this week's pic at http://www.rodmancharters.com/report.htm Other great new picks will be scattered around on the website. Two cobia caught on Okuma spinning reels and one on GULP. The reels are tough and smooth; the GULP is something else. Summer is here and it seems the fish knew just when to arrive. Don't miss the action. Get out on the water! Let's Go Fishing!!! Capt. Rick Bennett Rod-Man Charters 910-799-6120
