Default Stuart Area

The past two weeks have been filled with some great fishing. The water temperature has gone up considerably and so has the action. Schools of dolphin are passing through in anywhere from 130 to 250 ft. A lot of fish up to 40 pounds have been caught as well as schoolies in the 5 lb range. Double digit catches have been common. King mackerel up to 50 pounds are roaming the bait pods in 20 to 70 ft. We had several close to thirty the other day. Two fifty pounders won the SKA championship last weekend out of Fort Pierce. Schools of big jacks are feeding on the threadfin herring up and down the beaches. These spawning fish are big, so have the appropriate tackle and hang on. Amberjack are being caught in good numbers near the wrecks and rubble. Bottom fishing has been great when the current allows. Yesterday we heard of a 61 lb. cobia being caught on a live greenie in 70 ft. of water north of the inlet.
The snook fishing is beginning to really take off. Yesterday we hooked seven fish on live bait at the dime bridge on the out going tide. Mullet are beginning to stack up near there and are bringing the fish in to feed. The Palm City Bridge is also holding some nice fish as are the canals and sea walls in the north fork of the St. Lucie River. Trout and some redfish are biting in both rivers on shrimp and plastics so get out and get in on some great springtime fishing. More later.
