Default Mosquito Lagoon Central Florida Fishing Report - July

The month is off to a racing start.

Day 1 of July and we are off and running on the Trout and Reds. The flats are holding 15/20 inch Trout in 2/4 feet of water. They are hitting jigs tipped with soft plastics, top water and shrimp on a popping cork.

Big Redfish are schooled up feeding on cut bait. The average sized Red is 15/20 pounds with a few in the 30/40 pound range.

Smaller Reds are in the back country feeding in areas not deep enough to hide them with their backs out of the water. Mullet have pushed back in the skinny stuff as unusually high water levels continue to advance. The average fish found in the back country have been 18/20 inches.

The canals in Cocoa beach are holding small to medium Tarpon. In the same canals we are finding Snook on the docks.

Sheep's head and Mangrove Snapper are on the deeper docks in the Merritt Island areas. Spotty shots of Pompano schooled in the Banana river are available as well.

This is looking to be a good month as long as the weather permits so get on the water and catch a memory.

Today was a trip in the Lagoon with Tim a Director for a local news station in down town Orlando and his Father. The calm weather helped to produce some nice Redfish for a memory or 2. Great catch guys.

Today was a very good day with many shots at good quality fish. Due to the extreme calm conditions it made for spooky fish. I am happy to say that Matt and his Grandfather did find success with a nice Big Sea Trout , 1 redfish and 4 small trout. A very interesting thing today was we had shots at tailing Trout today and that was a little odd.

Good Job Matt on such a great catch !!!
P.S. Matt is 11 years old

The day started out on a positive not as the clear skies continue and calm winds prevail. Today I had the pleasure to fish with Mike Marsh and his family. The morning bite was as good as it get's with a school of small tarpon rolling all over the place. Not a couple but a ton. I am talking an a foot ball field of them. The only thing is they were very small and hard to keep on the hook. The trout bite continues to be a plus with great shots at redfish as well. Today was a total of 1 redfish 4 trout and 4 small tarpon.
