Default New Location and New challenges - April 20 2005

New Location and New challenges

I have moved the location of my boat to Jupiter Inlet. Fishing here seems to have more action and many different types of fishing. For example last week the wind started to blow and I had 2 days of fishing still to do. Instead of having to cancel we switched to more of an inshore avenue me and ended up scoring. We stayed near the beach and looked for the giant schools of Jack Cravelle that travel from Fort Pierce to Jupiter this time of year. All of the fish seem to be in the 20 to 30 pound class and can put a serious hurting on any angler. We also caught a few spinner sharks up to about 100 pounds. It was a nice change to be able to switch gears and still be able to keep my clients on fish. I am not sure that I want to catch jacks and sharks for a living but keeping my clients with a bent rod is the name of the game.

Offshore I have been getting reports that the Dolphin are finally showing up. Fishing past the edge in 400 to 650 feet of water has been producing. However, after the wind past few days I would look for structure and weed lines and you should find the fish. The Dolphin have been in the 10 to 25 pound range and of course we have our schoolies mixed in.

On the reef the Kingfish action was a little slow last week but there was plenty of fish still around. Quite a few guys were catching Kings early last week up to 30 pounds and plenty of 10 to 15 pound fish. The fish were located a little north of Jupiter inlet to Juno Pier. On the bottom there has been plenty of action with the Grouper and Snapper. I was amazed at the difference in Bottom fishing from Broward County VS up here. I could not keep a rod baited on the bottom for more than 5 minutes at the most. I am not going to say that every fish we caught was a keeper but there were definitely a few nice ones in the mix.

On the Swordfish front I am waiting on the weather to clear and plan on fishing for swords on Friday night. I actually have a few dates open if you looking to tangle with a nice sword. Last Monday night we went out with Darren and his brother from the UK neither had ever caught a billfish before let alone a swordfish. Right on schedule we had a bite before we had our 3rd line in the water. While we were fighting that fish we hooked up on our only other line in the water and worked the double header for about 20 more minutes before releasing on and keeping the other both fish were about 60 pounds. I am truly excited about fishing for swords out of Jupiter.

I have dates available over the next 2 weeks for day trips to the Bahamas and local trips as well. NOW IS THE TIME TO GO!!! It is spring and the fish are eating. The Mutton Spawn is upon us and the fish are big and delicious. Give me a call and let’s book that trip of a lifetime.

Till next time, CATCH EM UP!!
