After much talk of a much needed change of pace(swordfishing sucks), my buddy Ryan and I hooked up his little hellsbay at 3:30am packed a few peanut butter jelly's( )and roled down to Flamingo(flaminger). With Noaa calling for winds out of the NE @20kts the flats out front were a no go. By sunrise we had already made the runto shark river to hit up the mudflats deep in the side creeks. Being I've spent the last 2 years of life swordfishing, we both sucked at timing the tides and missed the tide by a good 2 hours(and 2ft...). Oh well... we'll catch catch Tarpon til the tide starts coming back in. Poled back into "The Zone" and they were there and chewin pretty good. Ended up with 5 Tarpon on fly. Nothing huge... 20-25lbs. Tide finally switched and the reds started pushing. Fish a couple new creeks and ended up sight fishing 10 reds(20-26"), 27" snook and couple decent trout. Being that I had never fished back in Whitewater Bay, ole Tubbs ran up in north river where we hit up a few more mud flats and ripped the shoree line for a bit. Found a few fish on the flats and pulled off a couple snook around the the bushes.
Total:
10 Reds(20-26")
5-7 on tarpon on fly(20-25lb)
1-5 on snooks(about 27")
2 trout....
Each of us had the super slam.... But good ole tubbs rounded out the day with a can slam!!! Ladyfish(about 100 of those suckers), jack, and catfish! The next cast after the catfish, I came tight on a nice lizardfish to complete the can super slam!
Fun day! Love that place. No more swordfishing... that's for the birds.
