1k transducer

I got this huge box and figured surely there must be something else in it besides the new transducer I ordered.

HAHAHA. Seriously, I had no idea of how big this sucker would be. I had a 1K in my Hydra Sport but it was one of the inside hull types and I could never get quality images of the bottom after 1000' feet or so. I also think it was probably the sounder that was a big part of the problem. We will see.....pun intended.

A thought about upgrading this old Mako: I always thought that buying an old quality hull and then restoring and upgrading to make it almost like new again would be not only a fun project but both a huge savings and huge difference in quality overall. Additionally, I will know pretty much every inch of the boat in the process.

And doing all the work in a covered area next to my garage in NC, with all my tools and equipment at hand makes it even more fun. Almost as good as sex, if I am remembering it correctly.

I probably would have gone with an airmar tilted element thru hull, but no sense monday morning quarterbacking it for ya...

Hell that will make a great (and functional) keel/skeg/prop shaft protector!

Hey Don:

I checked out the tilt transducer and for some reason it wouldn't work for me. It might have been it wasn't available in th 1K version. All I have to do with this one is enlarge the hole in the bottom. The old fairing will work great for the block I need on the inside of the hull. I am taking the new fairing to a buddy of mine (a pro carpenter) to modify it to 16 degrees. Only scary part is how big the thing is.

Good eye! My "go to" vehicle here in NC is my Wrangler. The dog in the pic is my beloved "Harry" (named after my father because I couldn't get any grand children named after him). Harry passed away about a month after that pic was taken.

Attaboy, sorry about the loss of your best friend....when I was searching for a 1kw transducer I found the airmar TM-260, its great because no hole has to be made on the bottom of the hull this is a 1kw transom mount transducer, and from experience it works fantastic on my raymarine c80 I read bottom going 40 mph, and when I'm offshore it has read bottom up to 2400 ft so far I have not fished deeper

I am thinking they are pretty much the same. "B" Bottom, "TM" Transom Mount. Appear to be the same price as well.

I already had a hole in the hull from the old transducer and I don't think a transom unit would work as well with an inboard. Maybe no difference?
