If you guys want to be entertained by the misinformed people that are outraged by this catch check out the blog from the local paper where it was landed. You guys can rest assured that if I landed that beast in our local waters there would be Mako steaks for everyone that wanted it.

RT that fish is tasty. Had steaks from a 600+ lber last time I was in new york, and it was real tasty. I'm w/ weekendbender on this issue. Its tasty, and a fish of a lifetime. If I can't eat it, I don't target it. If its dinner it goes in the box.

I would be curious to know what a lab test of a sample of that fish would reveal: how much methylmercury would be reported? But maybe it is high in selenium too, the other essential nutrient. Please don't let this scare anyone: it is probably OK to eat but just limit the number of portions over time and don't offer to small children. |

the best part of the whole story for me was that the shark was poaching grouper and scamp off the lines, before they baited him up. Steal my grouper once shame on you, twice...... watch out for the hook beeeotch

I like the way you think DF2. I would have loved to be the stickman on that one.

My personal best was 511lbs taken in Montauk. Just my dad & I out that day. We had to have our friend with a gin-pole assist in bringing it in.
![]() An 844 must have been absolutely wild. Congrats to the capt & crew
