Hey folks I'm new here and have a question about shark from the beach. I've heard many diffenent views but would like to hear some more. We'll be around middle Georgia on july 20th and have heard the sharks will still be around. All I have to catch the on is a Shimano Tekota 800 with 520 yards of 40# mono on board. Its straped to a 6'6" heavy 40 to 80 roller rod. I've got a few # 11 hooks and some 80# hard wire. Going to use a kayak to get the bait out. Will this all work. I tried to land one a while back with a spinning reel with 270 yards of 30# mono and a 12' pole. Well I never got to see what it was since I got spooled in a few seconds. Went out and bought this rig and a little scared that its still not big enough. Please help. Any tip would be appreciated too.

Lines In

270yds won't last on a spinning reel. I've had BT's take 400yds of line on lock-down drag. I recommend a minimum of 450+yds. If you want a good spinning reel I recommend buying a Fin-Nor OFS95. I use it and spooled 700yds of 65lb PP on it. It has 60lbs of drag so you won't have to worry abut getting spooled!
![]() The other reel you have, the shimano doesnt have enough line on it for yakking baits. If you ever hook into a big one, which can happen, you'll be spooled in no time. My yakking reel (Alutecnos Albarcore single speed 50/80) has over 1500yds of line on it. You don't need that much, but im not a very big guy and cant hold a crap load of drag, so I need the extra line. I recommend getting rid of the mono, hat stuff breaks so easy, unless your using 80lb or 130lb. PowerPro is the way to go, It guarantees those hook-ups and the no stretch is a great advantage on the surf. I recommend using a minimum line of 65lb test. Other wise your jst going to get tailwacked or something and lose your set-up and fish.
