Default Sharking while swording

I would like to catch a big shark while i'am out swording. I caught a cuban the other night and let him go but I wasn't targeting them. I would like to have my swordfish spread out and have one bait targeting a big shark. What is the best technique and bait? Also if I do bring in sharks will it mess up my primary species, swordfish? Thanks.

Bringing in sharks usually hoses other fishing. If you just want to target a shit-eater, put out a whole bonita fillet (2-4 lbs of red meat) out on a jug.

If you want to target sharks .. use live bait ... bluerunners or big gog`s ... you will still get swords on them .. but bring in more sharks and less swords ...last couple of times live baiting .. have caught a few sharks ... live bait fish ... give off signals that sharks can`t resist .. Unless you are looking for mr Mako .. i`d put out all live bait`s !

Big Makos eat swordfish. While your out swordfishing throw out a bloody piece of swordfish and if a Mako is in the area, it will definately grab it.

Last time I was out we put a 10# hunk of old sword on a double hook rig with cable. I attached the float bout 20' away and no lead. It was the first line deployed. All night it sat out there until it bent over and took 3/4 of the spool on a 80tiagra at about 25#'s of drag. he cut thru the cable and bit the glowstick in half. What a monster he must have been? I can't wait to try again.

Default "10# of old Sword"? I'd be happy to get 1# of new sword!
