Default Hutchinson island

greetings ....my first post here . looking forward to many .

I will be on hutchinson island for the thanksgiving week and was wondering where the best (if any ) place on the beach is to do some sharking . Or is it basically find a spot and cast in. newbie questions sorry

i have a diawa sportsmatic spinning reel that holds 500 yds 40 lb braid and has baitrunner feature also have 12 foot spinning rod heavy duty built on a century blank . should i up the test of my line? do you reccomend mono over braid? i usually just catch a few whiting and pompano in the surf with a lighter set up and want to try for something bigger . do you reccomend dead bait or perhaps a live whiting . one last question ( for now ...) do you folks reccomend using bait runner feature or just using regular drag when waiting for the hit ( baitrunner drag is adjustable)

thats all ill bother you with for now thanks in advance.

Default BEACH SHARKIN

Used to do alot of drinking,,, I mean sharkin off the beach. We would use a giant mullet head, butterflied blue runner, bonito, something stinky. Stick w/ the braid. Your tackle sounds a little lite but there are plenty of smaller sharks to tangle with right off the beach. Make sure you really plant that rod holder in the sand. Nothing funnier or disheartining than watching your rod skiping down the sand toward the surf. Fish the bait runner 3/4 to full and use a big circle hook. ( much less likely to get cut off). Good luck

Thanks , the spinning reel is the largest bait runner that diawa makes so i think im ok with that , and thanks for the sand spike warning , unfortunately i have had that happen to me , in fact was last time i was on hutchinson island . was just fishin for pompano with basic bottom rig with sand fleas and i was distracted by my daughter building a sand castle and i heard a noise turned around and watched my(brand new) rod fly thru the air right into davy jones's locker   trust that wont happen again!! or at least i hope not not sure what it was that took it but some one some day might just snag a real nice setup somewhere !!
