Don't touch the Okuma!!!!!!!!!!....... Don't even think about it!!!... Go with the Shimano package... Shimano has the best track record in the industry while Okuma has the worst...

Default SHIMANO

:stup I was foolish enough to purchase one okuma reel. It disintegrated on me on the first fish . On the other hand I still fish my original TLD 25 my father bought me 17 years ago. Its had the drag washers replaced a couple of times, thats it, and I punish fishing gear.
Good Luck,
DF2 irat:

I have all tld 25s (6) for my general purpose trolling/bait/bottm gear and you can't go wrong with these!!. Might be alittle lite for really big sharks. I have had the Okumas (50w golds) and didn't like the quality and switched them out for the Tiagras( all 50w's).

Don't touch the Okumas. Shimano is the way to go. Also, if you can upgrade from TLD to Tiagra, you'll have probably the best damn reel there is, and it's not anywhere near Fin-Nor prices.

yeah stay away from the okumas, they really suck

hmm, the tld 25 is a great reel, but I have had less trouble with the good ole penn 114h(red).

I usually use these for bottomfishing, and the penn has the upperhand

Penn 6/0's are better bottomfishing reels than TLD's are. The drag system is different enough to make fishing TLD's, Tiagras, or other similar "offshore" reels undesirable for bottom fishing when catching mean gags, jacks, and snappers.
