Default Targeting Makos help

Want to target a Mako during daylight hours within the next couple of weeks. Have a nice size Mack for bait, just need to know how far out you need to go so we do not get any of the reef sharks, and if it is possible to get one during the day. The reef sharks have been great fun just want something a bit tastier.

Ask some friends to save you some sword carcases.run out 8 to 10 miles start chumming and put some sword on for bait.

Bluefish is deadly on Mako's.
Especially if it's live.
I've hooked up with a few on ballyhoo as well.

I can only speak from experience in Southern CA... The greatest probability spots here are usually the banks (the high spots with the high temperatures ranging from 66-69 degrees)... These spots produce the highest numbers of makos---not necessarily the biggest makos, but the most makos (ranging from 20-100lbs usually)... If you're a beginner, small makos probably aren't such a bad thing anyway, as they are not nearly the hassle that a 200+ pounder can be at gaff... I drop 2 small bongos chum buckets in and usually start getting bit within an hour--by either a blue or a mako.... Bring a bait catching set up, as mackeral often swarm the chum buckets once they start flaking... Nothing works better than a live mackeral with its tail cut off... Cruel, but true... Makos seem to love this more than anything...

Catching---I forgot to add that it is probably better to fish for makos during the day... Most of the world records were taken during the day... I usually go out at around noon and come back at 5-7pm...
