I've been watching a temp break for the last week that I thought might be a prime spot for some sharks. The weather has sucked and I have not had a chance to get out to do any fishing. Today, I saw my window of opportunity. I headed out with my buddy Dan for a little sharkin' adventure. It took about a hour or so to get the chum line going good. I saw a little tap on one of the reels and then all hell broke lose.ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!! Fish ON! The fish took a huge run and then gave me a nice little jump out of the water! THRESHER!!!!!!! It was hooked in the mouth, but when it jumped, it wrapped the leader around it's tail. It was a back breaker of a fight, but I was able to get the fish to leader in about 40 minutes.
I was using a Penn 15KG two-speed with 50 mono. I had a wire leader with a half mack on a 10 J-hook. ![]() I've caught a couple of threshers over 200lbs and this one felt like it was right around that 200lb mark. I wasn't able to get it on a scale because we ended up cleaning the fish at the spot and putting it on ice. It was still early and we wanted to run the boat a little more. It was actually the first fish that was caught on my new boat. Not a bad way to start!
