Default Some questions about Sharking in panama city

I really need your help to improve my chances of landing my 1st shark from the beach & some other questions.

I appreciate your help!

1. I will be going to Panama City in end of June & staying on the FAR FAR west end right where the condos & hotels stop. The beach is fairly shallow, is this going to be a problem with catching sharks? (very few people around our area even during the day)

2. Legally, is it against the law in Panama City to fish for sharks from the beach?.... Obviously I wouldnt be doing this during the day while people were swimming. Just very very early in morning & very late at night.

3. Would it be against the law to put a chum bag out at night while I am fishing? I didnt know if that would help draw them to the area where I am or not.

4. I have the proper gear... so any tips you can give me would be appreciated!

Thank you.

IF you're still out there email me. The beach is not considered a high percentage place to fish for sharks, nor very polite. You'll do better in the pass, from Shell Island, off Deep Water Point, or if you're willing to drive, Indian Pass and Crooked Island are very well known for being sharky. Crooked takes a boat and is the best.

Actually.. I already went. Came back this week.

(I only did shark fishing at night after everyone was asleep)

But I am glad to say I hooked up with my 1st shark this year using half of a Bonita). I was on the new pier across from Point Park in Panama City.

It ran about 300 yards of 80lb braid off of my reel.. then turned & came back towards me... then turned & ran about half my line off again.... Then the line snapped.

When I pulled the line in, it had actually bitten through my steel leader!!

Not 5 min later the guy next me hooked up & fought his for an hour & half. Finally got it in, it was around 7ft long & about 350-400lbs estimated.

I caught a bunch of other good sized fish, but no more sharks. But I think I learned that I "Need a Bigger Boat" next time... Bigger leader.. bigger reel.. etc

Either way.. it was the rush I was looking for
