Default Sonny Boy's 700+ LB Mako Shark Caught

Here are some pics of the 700 + lb mako that the Sonny Boy caught Last night while swordfishing. It took them 3-4hours to land. 1 harpoon and 2 flying gaffs to tame the fish. They couldnt put it in the boat so they had to drag it back.
They said that they where picking up to leave back at 11pm when it hit, jumped 20feet in the air and took off. It was hooked in the corner of the mouth on a mono rig with a Jobu hook. Its measurements where 137" long and 64" girth.

Awesome Mako guys, they are the best fish in the world to catch.

Hey Capt. Ed, you wouldn't have been the only one last night/this morning bringing in a huge mako. Sorry to hear it broke off at the boat after 2 1/2 hours. Now I feel bad, not only did I make you bring me back in on Sunday night, you still got out and went 1 for 2, but I forgot the shaft to the harpoon I sold you and you didn't have it last night to boat the beast for your charter BUMMER.

No problem Slasher. We still got a fish in the boat and we were all treated to an epic battle with some great arial displays. All of us were in awe and I finally got to hand leader something meaner than me. That was one of the best trips I've ever had minus the loooong ride back down south.

26 03.5 and 080 49.3 It hit a Large, red squid @ 300-350', rigged with wire leader, an 11/0 Owner Jobu Big Game hook and a rattle inside.

I took a cheap inshore lure that rattles, cut the hooks off and waxlined it to the leader inside the squid.

It was awesome watching it jump, fighting it with 25+ pounds of drag for almost 2 & 1/2 hours and hand leadering it. By far the biggest and strongest fish I have ever leadered or fought. I fought it stand up on an Ocean Master 80 pound straight butt rod, Penn 50 VSW reel, spooled with 80lb JINKAI smoke blue line...
